Welcome to our ministry webpage! We are Mike and Beth Matheson, and we live near Charlotte, NC, with our seven-year-old daughter Leigh.
In 2004, God laid on our hearts the passion to minister to Missionary Kids (MKs) and their families, and now, as members of Wycliffe Bible Translators, we work with teenagers at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, NC.
The purpose of this website is to inform you of the needs of MKs and keep you up to date on what is going on in our ministry and in our family.
Ministry News
Peru Mission Trip
This summer we will be taking a team of 8 students to Peru on a mission trip, and we are bringing Leigh with us again this year. We will be working with the Quechua people doing kid's programs and showing the Jesus film. If you would like to read more about our trip, you can read our newsletter and Leigh's letter. If you would like to sign up to pray for us or support us financially, please flill out a response form. We need to raise a total of $2,200 each and 15-20 prayer partners.
MK Conference
In early April we will be traveling to Kansas City to attend the Missionary Kid Caregiver Consultation (MKCC). It is a conference for people who work with missionary kids from many different mission organizations. This year, we are taking Leigh with us and we praise God, because we were able to get plane tickets for all three of us for free due to a couple flight vouchers and some cheap tickets! Please pray that the conference would be beneficial, and that Leigh would do well.
A year in PNG
We have been invited to spend a year in Papua New Guinea (PNG) covering for Benji and Esther Campbell as the youth pastor of the Wycliffe base in Ukarumpa. They will be taking a furlough, and we will be going sometime in the early summer of 2011 and staying for a year working with the 200 teens there. Please pray that God will provide the funds we need for the trip.
Mother/Daughter Tea
Beth hosted a Mother/Daughter tea for the middle school girls and their mothers. They played games, drank tea, ate desserts, and enjoyed each other's company.
"The Epitome of Innocence"
By Rebecca Price
“Where are you from?” You ask me curiously; innocently. “What answer do you want to hear?” I feel like asking you. And yet, I smile bravely, seemingly present, but my mind begins to travel elsewhere…
A child; teetering out of a small, weary plane, clutching her mother’s hand tightly and, Staring in wonder with my wide, toddler eyes at the new, exotic place before me. Later in life, the mud fights I had with friends: us sliding barefoot down, A steep, seemingly glass clay incline, our shouts of delight echoing around the valley.
Please pray for our finances. We are below our quota and in need of around $500 a month. As well, if you are interested in partering with us in our ministry please contact us.
Family News
Surprise!
We have some rather exciting (and surprising) news! Beth is pregnant! For those of you that know her story (two miscarriages), this is a gift from God. We had given up 4 years ago on having any more kids, but God had a different plan. Beth is due October 31, and the ultrasound looked good. We were able to see (and hear!) a strong heartbeat (146 BPM), which was a blessing after our last ultrasound 4 1/2 years ago. Pray for Beth, as she is having pretty bad morning sickness, and pray for the health of our new child.

Trip to Tennesee
We spend a few days away as a family in a cabin at Tuckaleechee Retreat Center in the mountains of Tennesee. It was a wonderful time of relaxation for our family. Leigh is doing a unit on geology, so we visited The Lost Sea, a cave w/ a 4-acre underground lake.
A New Family Member
In February, Beth's brother John Thomas proposed to Kristen Dillow and she said "Yes!". They are getting married in July, and we are excited to have a new member of the family.
Settling in
We have pretty well settled in to our new home, and had an open house plus several evenings with company. However, there is still lots of work to do. Mike wrote out a Honey-do list that should last his 5 years (1 page list, single spaced, 2 columns), and may post it so that if you are interested in helping, you can pick a project to help with.

Beth's New Album
Beth has released an album! As many you know, Beth is a wonderful songwriter. Last year she got together with her brother, who is a musician, and they recorded some songs in his studio/closet. Beth thought the songs were just for the family, but her brother did such a good job on production that they are now selling the CDs online. If you would like to look at her website and listen to some of the songs, you can visit bethmathesonmusic.com.
